Becoming Unphasable
And How to Achieve Everything You want in Life. Embracing the Martial Mentality.
This is a mind state I am still learning to fully intergrate. To be successful in Jiu Jiu Jitsu or any martial art, you mainly need to figure out what you can get away with.
When we first start doing martial arts, we know nothing and it feels like everyone is just taking everything from us. They’re taking our backs, they’re taking our necks, they’re taking our limbs. After a while, we get sick of it so we start to learn how to not give it up so easily. We learn we can take charge.
It’s a natural progression, as soon as we take charge, we start to take better position and we can start going for submissions. It sounds like it should be that easy, to make the choice in the beginning, to take charge. But if we look at this in terms of business, you can’t just take the money out of customers pockets, you have to get them to want to give it to you.
Same thing with Jiu Jitsu too, as people get better, no one wants to give up anything, so we must find ways to get them to, which often looks like creating threats or offering an escape that leads right to into a trap.
We are human though, so mistakes will naturally be made, and sometimes we are forced to make mistakes.
(You definitely don’t want to miss my cheesy line on becoming unphasable on the other side of this pay wall. More than worth it!)
